BOARD OF DIRECTORS' MEETING
MINUTES
MARCH 19, 2003


Pres. Sally Hyde called the meeting to order at 7:34  a.m. at the Port Commissioners' Conference Room.


BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:   Sally Hyde, Bill Moran, Vern Chase, Rudy Jones,
Carl Swenson, Pam Halsan, Joan Longstaff,
GUESTS PRESENT;  David Stires, Warren Bradbury, Carol Kinney

SECRETARY:
I have received the following correcctions to the minutes of the Feb. l9, 2003 Board Meeting: 
UNDER WATERFRONT:  Craig Cooke has made  "Contact" with potential sponsors
totaling $75,000.  He has no checks as yet but expects we will collect approx. $25,000 in Sponsorships.
The PA system will have a "Mike" available in the information booth
Under Treasurer's Report:   Sally advised we hold Vendors' checks until the Vendor
is approved then return unapproved checks to respective vendors.
Under Community Service:  YWCA donation for $500 was approved and Joan
Longstaff requested that Brent Hagen cut her a check after the board meeting so she
would have it for the 2/28 YWCA Luncheon.
Under old business:  Rick Steves  (not Steve) is the donor.
Vern moved Carl seconded that the minutes as corrected be approved.  Motion passed.

We need a new order of First Harvest Cards.  Brent to send a check for these.

Sally pointed out that some matching funds were available for the Feinstein Grant.
We want to be sure to send in our money during the month of March.

WATERFRONT:  Sally
Contracts have been given out.  She would like to have a Board meeting after the regular meeting March 25.  Karen has a concussion and may not be able to attend.

NO TREASURER'S REPORT

NO CLUB SERVICE REPORT

COMMUNITY SERVICE:   WARREN
Students have attended the PLU meeting and one will come to report to the club.
Committee has information for Feinstein Grand and the local Food Bank.  The  Food
Bank donation of $250  is needed.  The question is have we made this donation
previously this year?  Happy Bucks are the source funds for this donation.
Warren moved Joan seconded that we make the $250 donation this month.  Motion approved.

Dave questioned about the amount for Boy Scouts.

Pam stated that she has received a call from Brian McIntosh with the Parks Dept.
regarding donation for the Easter Egg Hunt, Sat. April 19 at the Edmonds CIty Park.
They also need volunteers to help with this activity.

Rudy spoke to the request of the So. Co. Sr. Center original request of $5,000.  They
have a desparate need for a new oven.  Estimated cost around $4,000.  These are
used to prepare meals served to needy Seniors.  More detailed info will come with
their official request.  Sally requested we have it for the special Board meeting this
coming Tuesday. 

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE:   Carl
Our grant request to RI to cover the Peru shop items is on going.  The normal
eight weeks has passed and no word received.  Carl has requested the 5030 person
to follow up. 
This should be part of our District Conf. Display.  Kirk has a list of all our projects
on the Web.

An amount of $500 is needed for the GSE team going to Vietnam.  Carl moved
Joan seconded  that we appropriate $500 to this team.  Motion passed

Carl requested we support the Breakfast Club Program to help Lost Boys.  He moved
Joan seconded that we donate $250 to the Kokuma Camp Childrens'  Fund. Appproved.

   Joan moved Carl seconded      Motion passed

The next membership  meeting at Joan's office will be April 3  from 5 to 6 p.m
She is inviting a minister from Fiji to a meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:

Rudy has information on voting issues which will come up at the District Conf.:
          3 Items:
      l.  Changes in the Policy Manual on proceedures
      2.  Election of a member to the nominating committee.
      3.  A resolution on the Council on Legislation. 
This club needs two members to be electors:
Pres. Sally immediately appointed Vern Chase and Warren Bradbury as our      electors.

Pres. Sally has received a letter requesting our nomination of students for the Outstanding Youth Challenge Awards.  This was passed to Bill Toskey and Pat Shields to handle.  Warren volunteered to check into this with a school counselor.

Pres. Sally needs to know who from our club is registered for the Dist. Conf.

CORRESPONDENCE:  Pres. Sally announced that Lakewood District is having a Polio Plus dinner --$100 per plate.  Anyone interested?

Vern announced a One day meeting July l9 in Vancouver with the new RI President.

Joan moved that we reimburse registration of any club member going to the RI Conf.
Pam seconded.    Motion Approved.   Registration is approx $40.

Vern spoke on his retreat.

Sally requested donation of used eye glases.  Remember Shari Ramm is also
collecting glasses for Fiji.

Pres. Sally announced that she has arranged for the Iron Lung to be displayed at the
Waterfront Festival.  She will chair this activity and needs sign ups for manning the
exhibit.  Also if you know a polio patient or survivor let her know.
